But again, even though I am not adding into my list, I should admit the reissues of My Bloody Valentine albums and eps are great feast for our sensitive ears. I think it was a smart thing to do for MBV to reissue the old albums while planning to put out a new one after 20 something years.
11-Helmet - Meantime-1992
The teenagers of 90’s will remember the song Unsung. First time in a decade, the album is remastered for the vinyl version.
10- Various Artists - Time To Go - The Southern Psychedelic Moment: 1981-86
Flying Nun was a very important label for New Zealand post-punk scene. This compilation was done by Bruce Russell of Dead C. It has one of my favorite band The Clean, along with Tall Dwarfs,The Chills and so many more. Great introduction to New Zealand indie rock scene.
I found this nice live video from the Clean early 80's...
9- Charles Mingus - The Jazz Workshop Concerts 1964-65
A truly nice box set of Charles Mingus live performances comes with superb sound quality. It contains 7 cds and limited to 7500 copies.
8-William Basinski- The Disintegration Loops [2012]
Basinski is an American composer and musician. The Disintegration Loops were recorded between 2002-2003. Lovers of ambient music must own this box set.
7- Black Rain- Now I'm Just a Number Soundtracks 1994-95
Black Rain is formed by the member of Ike Yard Stuart Argabright and a Japanese musician Shinichi Shimokawa in the early 90’s. This is dense, gloomy, dark, electro industrial album reissued by nice new British label Blackest Ever Black.
6 -Flaming Tunes - Flaming Tunes (1985)
Very exciting album by Gareth Williams of This Heat. This was recorded at home, pure minimalist avant-garde music. It’s more psychedelic and mellow compare to This Heat, but it is as good as This Heat albums. Now on vinyl by Blackest Ever Black Records...
5-Can - Lost Tapes
Very important German band Can’s Lost Tapes is a 3 cd box set mainly focuses of their two singer Japanese Damo Suzuki(my profile picture) and American Malcolm Mooney. It has previously unreleased materials and also some live performances. This box set is great to listen and compare these both creative singers. Highly recommended!
4- The Durutti Column- Short Stories for Pauline (1983)
The non-punk of the post-punk era of the British music scene, Vini Reilly’s Durutti Column was a important band for Factory Records. His music was so different from his label mates. He had a dispute with the eccentric owner of Factory Records( Tony Wilson) and this album was only released in Belgium by Factory Beneleux(sister label of Factory). Now it released almost after 30 years, “Short Stories for Pauline” is another beautiful art piece by Durutti Column.
3- Ike Yard- Ike Yard (1982)
Back then, in the late 70’s and early 80’s, when New York was affordable(thanks to high crime rate), it was the art heaven for North America. No Wave started here, like Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth said, most of musicians didn’t know how to play but they created this tremendous sounds with their cheap instruments.
Ike Yard members, not like the other most no wave artists, were well trained musicians. This is a great example for early electro-punk album, it has the dirtiness of Suicide, darkness of early Cabaret Voltaire.
2-Sensations’ Fix - Music Is Painting In The Air (1974-1977)
The leader of Sensations’ Fix’ Franco Balsini is a interesting man. He was born in 1948 in Italy, and grew up listening some early rock&blues albums that her sister from England send. Then he met his American girlfriend and together they went to USA to watch the Woodstock.
His musical vision is very wide and worked with good musicians but never became famous. The music is mostly magic, progressive&psychedelic rock with the hints of krautrock.Sometimes the music feels like Neu!,sometimes Faust and sometimes calming ambient sound of Brian Eno. He and his son worked together to put this anthology together using the original analog tapes. Don’t miss it!
1- Francis Bebey- African Electronic Music 1975 - 1982
O.k everybody, this is probably one of the most interesting African album ever. I was impressed right after my first listen of this unique work. Francis Bebey was born in Cameroon but lived most of his life in France, well accomplished academician at Sorbonne University, consultant at UNESCO etc(well, also of course a musician)...So he was a busy man, this album is really hard to define. It’s electronic but like the title says it’s African, so it has a beautiful organic, acoustic side which makes you feel like you are wandering in some African street while listening.
