THE VASELINES CONCERT OCT. 23 2010 , VANCOUVER BC

Many bands are criticized about reunion shows , because in most cases that means a mediocre show with few million dollars income. But when it comes to a indie music legend like The Vaselines , I am all for it.
First off all , they will finally make some money they already deserved in the past. And then , this is the best reason , their fans will see them probably first time live which is a priceless thing.
I was very excited when I heard that The Vaselines put out a new album and they were coming to Vancouver’s new hot spot Biltmore Cabaret to play. After twenty something year they made a new album called “Sex with an X” and I was so ready to see one of the best duo in the rock music history.
Formed in 1986 by Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee in Glasgow , the band released only one album and broke up almost right after their albums release. They became hugely popular with support of Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain. He said that they are his “most favorite songwriters in the whole world”.
It was another rainy night in Vancouver and when I went to see one of my favorite band at Biltmore. Californian  Dum Dum Girls was the opening band and it was a good warm up.
When The Vaselines took the stage , they prove the magic of rock&roll , that’s the magic   Lou Reed wrote years ago “ you know, her life was saved by rock&roll”...
The Vaselines started with Oliver Twist from their first album and seriously it was loud as hell!!! They played songs from new album but they didn’t forget their classics , even after 24 years , they were maybe even louder than when they first started. Loud, powerful and beautiful!!!! It was so nice to see how the duo share singing. They were  in Vancouver first time and it was an excellent show, I think also having a good band helped it(The guitarist and the bass player are from another scottish band Belle and Sebastian). Biltmore was full and very hot even the singer Frances complained about it and I was regret to not wear a kilt that night!

Do yourself a favour , if The Vaselines comes to your town , go get a ticket.

BEST PLAYERS OF 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP

Spain and Argentina were my favorites until I watched Germany. Joachim Low created a  great young team with super football skills but the lack of experience cost them the World Cup.

Anyways , I think Spain deserved to be a champion after beating Germany at the semi-finals.
The Referees at the tournament were generally bad. I also don’t understand why FIFA put those huge screens at the stadium where you can see the difficult positions with slow motion repeats. It sure didn’t help to FIFA’s referees!!!!
The final game was better than I though. I believe that  Holland was really lucky with the referee because if he was a little more brave , he would give at least one direct red card to De Jong for his karate kick to Alonso and  also Van Bommel could have easily two yellow cards before the first half.
Anyways , these are my favorite players of the 2010 FIFA World Cup...
1 - Iker  Casillas (Spain)

2- Phillip Lahm (Germany)
3- Maicon Douglas Sisenando (Brazil)
